Thursday morning’s Sounders training session at Starfire Sports Complex felt like a family reunion of sorts, as former stars watched from alongside the practice pitch ahead of the club’s 40th anniversary celebration tomorrow during the match against Vancouver.
“You want a club with tradition and history,” Seattle coach Sigi Schmid said. “You guys are all pretty young, but you’ll have to YouTube Alan Hudson, because he was a brilliant player. It’s great to see them out here.
“The biggest thing you get from them is how proud they are of what is happening now. Our players have a lot of respect and are cognizant of the past, as well.”
The Sounders will host an ‘alumni match’ at 4 p.m. tomorrow at CenturyLink ahead of the 7 p.m. kickoff with the Whitecaps.
The club also got the party started a few days early with this slick Seattle through-the-decades video, which is differently worth the few-minute watch.
