Weekend watch: Must-see matches from around the world

The Sounders-Galaxy showdown at CenturyLink isn’t the only must-see match on tap this weekend.

Real Madrid vs. Barcelona, Spanish Primera, Saturday at 9:00 a.m.

Really, the names are all that need to be said. El Clasico is one of the best – if not the best – rivalry in soccer, the games around which legacies are defined and on which La Liga often tilts.

F.C. Dallas vs. Portland Timbers, Major League Soccer, Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

FCD is hoping to play its way out of the fourth-/fifth-place play-in game, and can leapfrog RSL with a win. Portland trying to play its way in, needing both a result and some help from Colorado’s visit to Vancouver later that night.

Manchester United vs. Chelsea, English Premier League, Sunday at 9:00 a.m.

This meeting might not carry the weight of title implications as these matches often have in the past, given United’s weakened state. But as well as Chelsea is playing right now, few matches in England this season will.

Borussia Monchengladbach vs. Bayern Munich, German Bundesliga, Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

Yeah, yeah – I know it’s probably not going to last. But let the Monchengladbach fans have their moment, will you? The top two teams in the Bundesliga – you read that right – face off in what should be a madhouse.

Sporting Kansas City vs. New York Red Bulls, Major League Soccer, Sunday at 5:30 p.m.

Depending on how Columbus fares in Philadelphia earlier in the day, this match will decide either who makes it out of the Eastern Conference play-in game or who hosts it. Both teams could use some positive reinforcement after uneven finishes.
