Weekend watch: Must-see matches from around the world

The decisive legs of the MLS conference semifinals are upon us – with some juicy European matchups sprinkled in.

Liverpool vs. Chelsea, English Premier League, Saturday at 4:45 a.m.

This is the rematch of the infamous late-season showdown that cost Liverpool the title: The Gerrard slip, Willian bearing down on goal in stoppage … I can’t even … I’m not even a Liverpool fan and I’m still not over it, least of all with Chelsea running away with this season’s crown.

D.C. United vs. New York Red Bulls, MLS Eastern Conference semifinal, Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

The Red Bulls won 2-0 at home last weekend, meaning a single away goal will give them an almost unassailable lead on aggregate. But as stout defensively as United has been all season — and given New York’s past postseason woes — keep a wary eye on this one.

Borussia Dortmund vs. Borussia Monchengladbach, German Bundesliga, Sunday at 8:30 a.m.

If you enjoy regional rivalries, creative tifos and some of the most boisterous fans in Europe, have I got the match for you.

Paris Saint-Germain vs. Marseille, French Ligue 1, Sunday at 12 p.m.

The French title race is already shaping up to be of the two-horse variety – the big-money hosts from the capitol and the swaggering upstarts from the south coast. A positive result for the visitors would really make things interesting.

L.A. Galaxy vs. Real Salt Lake, MLS Western Conference semifinal, Sunday at 4:30 p.m.

The Galaxy attack could kick into gear at any minute, rocketing them into the Western Conference final with room to spare. Or it could keep sputtering, and RSL could end Landon Donovan’s career well short of MLS Cup.
