There are plenty of local connections filling out the women’s soccer College Cup bracket, one set to kick off with the first round tomorrow.
On Friday at 5 p.m., Washington State hosts Seattle University at the Lower Soccer Field in Pullman. WSU is ranked No. 23 in the country in the latest NSCAA poll, while the Redhawks earned their second-straight WAC tournament title last weekend. The teams also met in a preseason exhibition match in Seattle, one the Cougars edged 1-0 on Aug. 14.
Two hours later and back across the state, the fourth-seeded UW women host Rider. Washington is 11-10-2 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, with its highest finish coming in 2004 and 2010 when the Huskies reached the Elite Eight.
– SPU earns No. 1 seed
Seattle Pacific will host the first two rounds of the NCAA Division II men’s soccer tournament beginning this afternoon at Interbay Stadium as the No. 1 seed in the West Region.
Simon Fraser plays Northwest Nazarene in the opening round Thursday, with the winner advancing to face SPU on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The hosts racked up a 15-1-2 record in the regular season — but that lone loss came against Northwest Nazarene on Oct. 30.

There is still a week to go before the men’s D-I College Cup brackets are released, a final push Washington enters as the third-placed team in the Pac-12.
The Huskies lost 2-0 at Stanford last weekend before rebounding with a 3-0 win at Cal.
