Sounders FC vs. L.A. Galaxy, Western Conference final Leg 2: Notable notes and pre-match lineups

Here are the notable notes ahead of Sunday night’s second and final leg of the MLS Western Conference final between the Sounders and L.A. Galaxy at CenturyLink Field:

  • Having lost the first game 1-0 down in Carson, Calif., last Sunday, Seattle needs to win by two goals or more tonight to advance in regulation. A 1-0 Sounders lead with result in extra time — and possible penalty kicks — while draw or L.A. win will send the Galaxy through.
  • The winner of the series will advance to and host the MLS Cup final a week from today. It’ll face the New England Revolution, which outlasted the New York Red Bulls 4-3 on aggregate in an epic Eastern Conference final.
  • Sunday’s match marks Seattle’s 23rd all-time appearance against the Galaxy — 15 regular-season games, five MLS Cup playoff matches and a pair of U.S. Open Cup showdowns — the most against a single opponent in club history. Last time the two teams met at this stage, L.A. defeated Seattle in the 2012 Western Conference final.
  • Jair Marrufo is tonight’s match referee, Eric Boria and Corey Rockwell are his assistants and Hilario Grajeda is the fourth official.
  • As yellow cards are wiped out after this round, no players are at risk for an accumulation suspension.
  •  The away-goals rule is the tiebreaker through regulation, but under the new MLS rules, it would not apply should the match reach extra time.

And here are the lineups for both teams, as Osvaldo Alonso and Lamar Neagle both return to the Seattle starting XI and Marco Pappa gets bumped to the bench:

The match will be televised nationally on ESPN, with the broadcast beginning at 6:20 p.m. and first kick scheduled for 6:30.
