DaMarcus Beasley announces retirement from U.S. men’s national team

DaMarcus Beasley, the only American player to have appeared in four World Cups, announced Monday his retirement from the United States men’s national team.

Beasley, 32, finishes his career with the USMNT ranked in the top ten in games (121), goals (17), assists (13) and World Cup games (11). He helped the Yanks to the quarterfinals of the 2002 World Cup and played a role as they again advanced to the knockout stage in 2010 and 2014.

The converted left back now plays for the Houston Dynamo after a long career abroad that included stints with Manchester City, Rangers and Hannover. While with PSV, Beasley became the first American player to play in the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League.

Beasley announced his decision via an Instagram post.
