The Seattle Sounders were a single goal – or some away-goal-rule arithmetic – away from hosting the Eastern Conference champion New England Revolution for the MLS Cup title a few weeks ago.
The rain check may come a few months too late from a Sounders perspective, but the Revs are finally coming to CenturyLink Field.
Seattle is hosting New England on March 8 in both teams’ opening match of the 2015 Major League Soccer season, the league announced Friday, with the rest of the schedule still yet to be announced.
The match is slated for a 6:30 p.m. PST kickoff and will be televised on Fox Sports 1, the fifth time in seven seasons the Sounders have opened the season on national television. Seattle is 4-2-0 all-time in season openers.
Other highlights of MLS’ open weekend include the recently crowned champion L.A. Galaxy hosting Chicago on Friday, Toronto visiting Canadian rival Vancouver on Saturday and expansion clubs Orlando City and New York City FC facing off on Sunday.
The rest of the 2015 MLS schedule is expected to be released early in the new year.
