Seattle certainly didn’t take very long to bring in a possible replacement for DeAndre Yedlin — and they went shopping in the same country to which Yedlin just departed.
The Sounders announced Monday afternoon the signing of veteran English defender Tyrone Mears, most recently of Bolton Wanderers, who also played in the Premier League with West Ham United, Derby County and Burnley.
Mears, 31, was a Manchester City youth product, also spent time with Olympique de Marseille in France and made a single appearance with the Jamaican national team. He has lined up in both defense and in the midfield, but is most commonly used as an outside back.
“There’s quite a few positions where I can play, but I am a fullback,” Mears told the club. “That’s the position I hope to be nailing down for the season.”
More on this to follow.
