Jordan Morris returning to Stanford for his junior season

Jordan Morris, a Mercer Island native and former Sounders academy player, is returning to Stanford University for his junior season, the school announced Friday.

Further, American Soccer Now is reporting that Morris has turned down a deal to sign with Seattle as a homegrown player.

Morris, 20, was a first-team All-American as a sophomore, scoring four goals and dishing out six assists. He also debuted with the U.S. men’s national team debut against Ireland in mid-November, the first college player to earn a USMNT cap since 1995.

“My teammates, coaches, professors and peers make Stanford a special place,” Morris said in a release. “Here, I am provided the unique opportunity to both play the game I love and learn at one of the world’s great universities.

“Playing professionally is a dream of mine and I feel that Stanford will prepare me extremely well to realize that goal, but also for life after soccer.”
