Seattle one of 24 cities interested in hosting Copa America Centenario matches

We’re barely a week into 2015, but some in the U.S. soccer world are already looking ahead to 2016. That’s when the United States will host the inaugural Copa America Centenario, the combined North and South American continental championship.

On Tuesday, the federation released a list of  24 cities being considered for hosting matches — and Seattle made the cut:

A minimum seating capacity of 50,000 is required for tournament venues. The deadline for venues to submit their proposal is mid-March, and the winning cities will be announced in May — it is expected that between eight and 13 cities will be selected, per the federation.

The 2016 Copa America Centenario will feature six teams from the CONCACAF and all 10 teams from the Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol (CONMEBOL): Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. The United States and Mexico qualified automatically, while Costa Rica and Jamaica joined them in the field last fall.
