Goals from Galaxy midfielder Baggio Husidic and rookie Ignacio Maganto lifted L.A. to a 2-1 victory over the Sounders on Friday in a preseason friendly that doubled as a rematch of the 2014 MLS Western Conference final.
The lone Sounder tally came from Marco Pappa, who also scored twice back in October as Seattle edged L.A. to the Supporters’ Shield on the final day of the regular season.
Seattle coach Sigi Schmid said Thursday that these preseason games are about finding pairings, fostering tandems. Brad Evans slotted in beside Chad Marshall in center defense for the second straight match, while Chad Barrett teamed with Obafemi Martins up top and Lamar Neagle shifted back into the midfield.
The friendly marked the end of the Southern California portion of the Sounders’ preseason. They resume training in Seattle on Monday before traveling to Tucson, Ariz., for the Desert Diamond Cup the following weekend.
