Sounders FC 0, L.A. Galaxy 4 — postgame L.A. quotes

Bruce Arena – Galaxy Head Coach
(On his team having a good game against Seattle . . .) “The first half was pretty even. We got an important goal. The second half our team played really well.”
(On the Sounders plan to stop Edson Buddle . . .) “Edson Buddle had a great game, I thought. He doesn’t need to score goals all the time as a forward. He helps create goals and scoring opportunities. He held onto the ball well tonight. Landon [Donovan] and Edson played really well tonight by any way you evaluate performances.”
(On Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle playing together for the U.S. National Team…) “That is not my choice. I have a different job than that.”

FINAL: Seattle Sounders FC 0, Los Angeles Galaxy 4

Final: L.A. Galaxy 4, Seattle Sounders FC 0.
Wow.
78′: All the previous disappointing results have had a tinge of optimism to them. Not this one.
71′: All these goals have made it impossible to keep up with the updates. Los Angeles is embarrassing Seattle 4-0 now and I’ll spend the rest of the game writing.
67′: GOAL L.A. Donovan from Buddle it’s 4-0
58′: Miguel Montano has come into the game for Montero. It’s his debut.
57′ GOAL L.A. It’s 3-0 now for the Galaxy. Landon Donovan with another assist, his free kick is headed in by Dunivant.
52′: GOAL L.A. The Galaxy leads 2-0 now. Omar Gonzalez heads in a beautiful corner kick by Landon Donovan. Seattle is in trouble now.
51′: Marshall gets his head on a Ljungberg corner, but it’s soft and right at Ricketts.
50′: Donovan Ricketts wearing electricity yellow in goal. He wasn’t tested early on a shot by Montero, but not much since.
46′: No subs at halftime. Will L.A. play deliberately with the lead?
Halftime: Los Angeles takes the 1-0 lead into the break. Time to get some writing done.

It’s a beautiful day for soccer here at Qwest Field

Lineups will be coming around shortly. What are you expecting from this one? I’ve been telling people I think Los Angeles might play back. I think playing on the road three days ago, and getting the win, sets up for a counterattacking second game on the trip. But we’ll see. FYI, Sigi Schmid is 4-2-2 against…

Sounders FC v. L.A. Galaxy, preview and prediction post

Los Angeles Galaxy (6-0-1)
Head coach: Bruce Arena, third year
Last week: Won at Colorado 1-0 on Wed., Won vs. Philadelphia 3-1 on Sat.
Last year: 12-6-12, second in Western Conference (lost in MLS Cup final)
KEY LOS ANGELES PLAYERS
F Edson Buddle — Nine goals. 15 shots on goal. That is ridiculous. This guy is on a hot streak I’m not sure I’ve seen before. And he’s scoring his goals in so many ways (remarkably none from the PK spot). He’ll be a handful for the Seattle defense and one to watch.
M Landon Donovan — Hard to imagine perhaps the best American field player ever is coming into the game as the sidekick. But an MLS-best six assists is nothing to sneeze at. Buddle’s production is in part due to some great service and there’s no doubt Donovan can take over a game.
G Donovan Ricketts — Goalkeeper stats are often a reflection of the team’s success. And a 0.29 goals-against average and five shutouts are certainly impressive. But this guy is the real deal. Perhaps the best in the league and Seattle will have to earn its goals.

Sounders Finish Exhibition Season with High Quality Win
Sounders 1 – 0 Washington
May 6, 2010 – Starfire Stadium
SoundersWomen.com – The Seattle Sounders Women played their first match of the 2010 season in their home stadium at Starfire. The game was about a community competition between veterans (Sounders) and youth (UW). It was also about team development and non-conference individual progression. All of the elements that were focused upon by the Sounders Women coaching staff before the game had check marks next to them at the end of the match. In addition, the crowd of nearly 600 fans in mixed Sounders and Huskies fans were delighted by a competitive game that was up for grabs until the final whistle.

Friday training at Starfire Sports Complex — photo reel

With only the final drills available for photos Friday, I took a bunch of pics on the team’s work on corner kicks and free kicks at the end of training until my camera died.
Unfortunately the best stuff was yet to come. A good chunk of the team played a juggling game, where the player that makes a mistake to let the ball drop has to stand in the goal and face a firing squad of his teammates. The guys then rip shots from the top of the penalty box at the helpless target.
It gave me flashbacks to the days of playing that same game with the boys on the Bellingham High School varsity team.
Nathan Sturgis and Patrick Ianni took some notably tough hits that surely left a mark. Man, some of those guys showed no mercy. In the end, it was all good fun and one of the more light-hearted moments in training this season. Too bad my camera wasn’t able to catch it.

Sounders FC v. L.A. Galaxy preview, broadcast info (release)

Sounders FC vs. Los Angeles Galaxy – May 8 at 1:00p.m. PT on Xbox Pitch at Qwest Field; Seattle, Washington
If ever there was an ideal occasion for the Seattle Sounders FC to summon a breakout performance, surely it must be this Saturday, when the front running Los Angeles Galaxy arrives on the Xbox Pitch at Qwest Field. First kick is 1 p.m. PT.
Sounders FC (2-2-3, 9 points) is showing signs of shifting into high gear, but has collected just two points in the last three outings, including a 1-1 home draw with Columbus last week. Ten points behind the unbeaten Galaxy (6-0-1, 19 points) after seven matches, Seattle faces an opponent which leads Major League Soccer in both scoring and defense.
The Galaxy is playing its second game this week. It defeated Colorado, 1-0, in Commerce City, Colorado on Wednesday.
