The Sounders will have one last practice Wednesday night from Jeld-Wen Field, and I’ll provide updates afterward. Here was the injury rundown from coach Sigi Schmid after Tuesday’s practice.
“They were able to do what we wanted them to do, which was important,” Schmid said. “DeAndre got through the portion of practice we wanted him to get through. Oba got through what we wanted him to get through — stepped it up from yesterday, so that was really, really encouraging. Leo we kept inside. Zach with the cracked rib played, got through the training what we felt he could get through. So we’re pleased. We’re as healthy as we can be right now.”
Leo Gonzalez is perhaps the biggest question mark, as he’s been playing through pain recently and really looked to perhaps overexert himself to stop a late Ryan Johnson breakaway Saturday.
For Portland, Maximiliano Urruti is really the only question mark. He hasn’t played since suffering the injury in an Oct. 13 home game against Seattle.

Not sure Seattle’s report was updated as the status of defender DeAndre Yedlin is definitely in question as he recovers from a sprained right ankle suffered in Wednesday’s knockout round.
Coach Sigi Schmid said Friday the rookie right-back is “doing all right. He trained, did all the early parts of training with us. Then when we did the other stuff, the shaping, we had him work a little extra. Now we’ll decide tomorrow whether he’ll go or not.”
Also uncertain is the status of DP Obafemi Martins, who has missed the last four games. The forward was able to practice earlier this week, but he tightened up and hasn’t been able to do much since.
That doesn’t mean he’s entirely ruled out, though.
“We’ve got to play guys who are healthy to play,” Schmid said. “If he’s healthy to go tomorrow, whether it’s off the bench or in the lineup, he’s a guy we have to consider. It’s all hands on deck. If you’re healthy to play, you’re going to get out there.”
That obvious note, of course, is Martins hasn’t appeared healthy for a while.
The ones to watch for Portland are Diego Valeri, who was able to play in the season finale, so he looks to be OK, and Maximiliano Urruti, who hasn’t played since suffering the injury in the last game against the Sounders three weeks ago.
Elsewhere on the Timbers’ report you have a couple Washington natives and University of Washington products in Brent Richards and Dylan Tucker-Gangnes (plus a guy who spent time with the Sounders in preseason before his rights were traded to Portland, Mikael Silvestre).

SOUNDERS FC — OUT: M Steve Zakuani (adductor); GK Josh Ford (R patella fracture). QUESTIONABLE: M Shalrie Joseph (R knee sprain); F Obafemi Martins (groin).
COLORADO RAPIDS — OUT: D Davy Armstrong (R ACL surgery); D Kory Kindle (sports hernia). QUESTIONABLE: M Jamie Smith (R knee); M Dillon Powers (concussion); F Vicente Sanchez (R shoulder sprain).

Looks like both teams will be missing a key player.
Sounders coach Sigi Schmid said Obafemi Martins likely won’t be available unless he wakes up Wednesday morning feeling a lot better than he did Tuesday. The forward has missed four of the last five games.
“If we had to decide today, he wouldn’t be playing,” Schmid said after practice, “but we’ll have to see how he feels tomorrow.”
Regarding Colorado, reports are that Dillon Powers has been ruled out. The talented midfielder is perhaps the leading candidate for MLS Rookie of the Year this season and had a influential performance in the 5-1 win over Seattle earlier this month.
Lastly, Shalrie Joseph has returned to Sounders training, so that’s a good sign in his recovery.

Coach Sigi Schmid has provided some clarity to the report this week, noting that Obafemi Martins likely won’t play Sunday as they try to get him healthy for the playoffs.
It looks like Eddie Johnson and Djimi Traore were able to practice the past couple days, so they are in line to be available. Clint Dempsey, you’ll notice, isn’t even on the report, as he continues to play through a sore shoulder.
Here was how Schmid put it after Saturday’s practice: “Obafemi probably (won’t be available). We wanted to go easy with him today. He had some treatment yesterday, so we wanted to see a day of rest for him. Eddie’s fine. Clint, obviously the shoulder is always there a little bit if he falls on it wrong, but other than that, he’s OK.”
One other note, Leo Gonzalez will likely be held out as a precaution to make sure he’s as strong as possible for postseason.
“He could play,” Schmid said of his left back. “If it was a playoff game tomorrow, he could play.”
And when asked about how the lineup might look against the Galaxy, the coach just added: “This is our 34th game and it will be our 33rd different lineup, so nothing has changed that way.”

Lot of interesting notes in the injury report. I had understood Shalrie Joseph‘s current injury as a calf and Clint Dempsey‘s as a shoulder. I’m not sure if those are outdated/inaccurate or still issues for them.
MLS teams, of course, are not required by the league to submit accurate reports, so these should always be taken with a grain of salt.
The Sounders themselves are becoming much more guarded with their injury information, as well.
Coach Sigi Schmid didn’t offer much on the expected availability and/or roles of Dempsey, Eddie Johnson or Obafemi Martins before the team flight Thursday, but said in the video above that some guys “in pain” made the trip. Djimi Traore is an unexpected name on the report, as I hadn’t been aware of his injury.
For those who missed it, Steve Zakuani suffered a setback after Sunday’s game, feeling pain in the area of the sports hernia surgery he had earlier this year.
Regarding Dallas, George John (a Shoreline native) and Mauro Diaz are the notable absences for Dallas.
Obafemi Martins apparently didn't travel to Dallas. RT @DVo206: Uhhhh just got to joeys and obafemi martins is here…

Here are some quick injury updates. Eddie Johnson has returned in Seattle, but the team doctor hadn’t looked at the MRI yet (EJ brought it back with him from the U.S. national team). More will be known on the extent of the injury Saturday, but the forward won’t play Sunday in Portland.
“If he could play Sunday, he’d still be with the national team,” coach Sigi Schmid said.
Obafemi Martins had a lighter day of training as he deals with a lingering groin injury. Schmid said the DP is still sore, and the team is being careful with him, but “chances are good he should be able to play” against the Timbers.
Clint Dempsey is no longer listed, but Schmid said there hasn’t been a decision made yet on whether he’s ready to start. Dempsey came out of Wednesday’s game and Friday’s training OK.
We’ll get an another update on Leo Gonzalez after Saturday’s practice, but Schmid indicated earlier in the week that he could be available Sunday.
“We have a lot of moving parts we’re evaluating,” the coach said.

Forgive the brevity of this post, but a crazy thunderstorm rolled through the end of Sounders FC practice Tuesday. As such, reporters (and their recorders) could manage just about 60 seconds worth of updates from coach Sigi Schmid.
There was some significant injury news in that short span, though.
“Djimi (Traore) came through yesterday all right and trained today, so we think he’s available for tomorrow,” Schmid said. “(Obafemi Martins), same thing: he came through and he’s available for us. Clint (Dempsey) will be in the 18 for us, as well.”
There was no update on defender Leo Gonzalez, so maybe Sunday at Portland is better suited for his return.
Schmid was also asked more specifically about Steve Zakuani and what kept the midfielder from being able to travel to Colorado.
“He just felt really tight in the same area in the groin, the same area that he had the surgery,” the coach said. “It just felt really tight and it wasn’t loosening up.”
To the point of considering shutting him down for the season?
“No, no,” Schmid said. “He went through training today and he’s trained this week, so we’ll see how he is.”

The updates Thursday weren’t all positive when it comes to Sounders FC injuries. Here is a quick rundown:
* * *
— Clint Dempsey remains day to day as he recovers from a hamstring injury that has forced him to miss two games. The DP is yet to return to full training. “It’s a daily thing,” said coach Sigi Schmid. “We have to see what he does and how he reacts to it, so you don’t know until tomorrow. Obviously he did a little more today. We still kept him as a neutral for a good part of things, so now we’ll see how he feels tomorrow, whether there are any setbacks. … Coming off a hamstring, you really need a full week of training. I think if you have a full week of training, you can sustain it. That really says, ‘I’m back from it,’ and he hasn’t had that yet.”
— It doesn’t look like Leo Gonzalez will be back from the hip/groin injury. Schmid indicated the left back took a step back in his recovery this week after limited training Tuesday: “Leo did more the other day and he didn’t feel as good today.”
— Elsewhere, another veteran on the back line has been officially ruled out of Saturday’s road game against the Colorado Rapids. That would be center back Djimi Traore, who suffered a hamstring injury last game against the Red Bulls. The hope is Traore could be available Oct. 9 against Vancouver.
— Also, backup goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann is sick with the flu. (Schmid is, too, but that’s more of a concern for reporters who have to talk to the coach after practice)
— In a late update, here are the official injury reports (the news above is more accurate, e.g. Traore being listed as questionable below):
SOUNDERS FC — OUT: GK Josh Ford (R patella fracture). QUESTIONABLE: F Will Bates (R knee injury), M Clint Dempsey (R hamstring strain), D Leo Gonzalez (L hip injury), M Shalrie Joseph (R knee sprain), M Philip lund (R knee injury), D Djimi Traore (L hamstring strain).
COLORADO RAPIDS — OUT: D Davy Armstrong (right ACL surgery), D Kory Kindle (sports hernia). QUESTIONABLE: M Jamie Smith (right knee).

SOUNDERS FC — OUT: GK Josh Ford (R patella fracture), F Will Bates (R knee surgery). QUESTIONABLE: F/M Clint Dempsey (R hamstring strain), GK Marcus Hahnemann (R knee injury), M Shalrie Joseph (R knee sprain).
NEW YORK RED BULLS — OUT: M Ian Christianson (R foot surgery), D/M Connor Lade (R knee injury), D Roy Miller (L Achilles injury), D Heath Pearce (hip surgery), F Bradley Wright-Phillips (R hamstring strain). QUESTIONABLE: M Lloyd Sam (groin strain).

First off, Clint Dempsey did not return to practice Friday with the Sounders. He worked out inside again and is expected to train Saturday. Coach Sigi Schmid said the star forward is feel better and improving what he can do.
Asked if he expects Dempsey to be available against New York, Schmid said, “I think there’s still a possibility of him being in the 18 at this stage. Starting? Probably not so, but we have to see how he is.”
In some other news, defender Leo Gonzalez is unlikely to play against the Red Bulls. He hasn’t practiced this week due to a groin injury.
The update from Schmid: “Right now we’re being careful with him this week, and he’s like in Dempsey’s situation, he’s making improvements, so we’ll see if he’s going to be in the 18 or not for this weekend. But we think it might be a situation where we might want to try and rest him for a week.”
New York has quite a few injuries and will be without a couple other stars, as well. Thierry Henry and Jamison Olave reportedly were not set to travel to Seattle for the game due to injury concerns regarding the CenturyLink Field turf.

Coach Sigi Schmid said Evans and Hahnemann would be traveling with the team to Los Angeles, though league pool goalkeeper Doug Herrick also made the trip after Hahnemann suffered his injury Monday in training.
Schmid said the veteran goalkeeper was “much, much, much better” Friday after having been limited throughout the week.
No indication was given as to Evans’ role, whether he’d be starting or coming off the bench. If he’s not able to start, Adam Moffat is an option (the new addition also traveled).
The coach wasn’t asked for an update on Zakuani after indicating not long ago that October might be when the midfielder could have an impact again.
Galaxy coach Bruce Arena told Seattle reporters that they are planning on Donovan playing, but Arena has been less forthcoming with L.A. media, indicating it will be a game-time decision.
