With the goggle-sized glasses and floppy hats, Allen Stone somehow comes off a bit loopy for a soul singer — he prefers the term “hippie soul” — but when he opens his mouth and that sandpapery falsetto comes soaring out, it pretty much doesn’t matter what he’s wearing.
Stone is hard at work on his debut album for Capitol, for which much hoopla is promised toward fall. He definitely has an audience: His YouTube video from his mother’s living room (above) has gotten more than 3 million hits.
