Record Store Day Selections include Woody Guthrie | New recordings

Woody Guthrie, ‘My Name Is New York: Ramblin’ Around Woody Guthrie’s Town’ (Woody Guthrie Publications)

The Black Friday edition of Record Store Day is upon us — that’s the day after Thanksgiving, Nov. 28, in case you forgot — and there’s some good stuff out there, though much of the list, as has become customary, is comprised of limited-edition special-release singles.

Not fitting that description is this 3 CD concept box, a “walking tour” of Woody Guthrie’s New York, including the spot where the great Oklahoma singer-songwriter wrote “This Land Is Your Land,” plus two previously unreleased demos. Pete Seeger, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott and, natcherly, Arlo Guthrie all contribute recollections. A very special addition to the Guthrie oeuvre.

Other Black Friday releases

J. Mascis, “Fade Into You” (7” single, Sub Pop)
Jimi Hendrix, “Hear My Music” (12” vinyl, Dagger)
The Bug Vs. Earth, “The Bug Vs. Earth” (Boa/Cold)
Echosmith, “Cool Kids” (12” picture disc vinyl single, Warner Bros)
The Afghan Whigs, “Gentlemen At 21” (12” vinyl,
Rhino/Elektra)
The Beatles, “Long Tall Sally” (7” vinyl, Parlophone)
Dave Matthews Band, “Recently” (2 10” vinyl records, Legacy)
Miles Davis, “The Prestige 10” LP Collection Vol. 1
(Fantasy/Prestige)
