Word on the street is that Cornish music department head Kent Devereaux is leaving in January for a new post as president of the New Hampshire Institute of Art, in Manchester, N. H. Composer and guitarist Tom Baker, currently on the Cornish faculty, will step in as interim chair.

One of Baker’s first priorities is to confirm the lineup for the 2015 Cornish Presents series as well as the headliners for the second Seattle Jazz Experience festival, which takes place in March.

Here are some early highlights (subject to change):

Thumbscrew (Mary Halvorson, guitar; Michael Formanek, bass; Tomas Fujiwara, drums) 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8.

Vijay Iyer Trio  8 p.m.  Saturday, Feb. 21.

René Marie 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 24.

Michael Lim (violin), Melia Watras (viola), Cuong Vu (trumpet), Ted Poor (drums),  7 p.m. March 29.

Ryan Keberle & Catharsis 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 7.

Gamelan Pacifica, 7 p.m. Sunday, April 12.

THE SEATTLE JAZZ EXPERIENCE

March 13-14, 2015 at the Cornish Playhouse, Seattle Center, with Christine Jensen, Kneebody (with Ben Wendel) and the Julian Lage Trio with Scott Colley and Eric Harland.

CORNISH PRESENTS takes place in the PONCHO Concert Hall, 710 E. Roy St, Seattle; additional information, tickets at cornish.edu/presents.
