Bumbershoot Comedy lineup: local favorites and national stars

Bumbershoot announced its comedy lineup and it’s packed with podcast stars, locally-sourced comics and a fine selection of sketch and improv. The music and arts festival takes place Aug. 30-Sept. 1 at Seattle Center.

Stand up performers include W. Kamau Bell, Doug Benson, Ted Alexandro, Cristela Alonzo, Matt Braunger, Beth Stelling and Rory Scovel among others.

The festival will feature “Star Talk Live” with Bill Nye and Eugene Mirman, “Doug Loves Movies” with comedian Doug Benson and Paul F Tompkins’ “Dead Authors Podcast” all broadcasting live.

Seattle’s comedy scene is represented by “The Comedy Womb,” “Punchline Comedy,” “Wine Shots: Comedy’s Happiest Hour” and “Comedy On Trial.”

Sketch performers include “The Improvised Shakespeare Company,” “Seattle People Doing Sketch” and “The Early Late Show with Yogi Paliwal.”

Comedian Aparna Nancherla has written for “Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bel” was just named one of Time Magazine’s best twitter feeds of 2014, been a guest on Marc Maron’s “WTF Podcast” and will now headline a series of independently produced comedy shows showcasing Seattle’s talented alternative comedy scene.

The RendezvousComedy Womb – May 13th & 14th – $10 Tickets – Comedy Womb is a Seattle based female focus but not female exclusive weekly open mic that takes place in The Grotto space of the Rendezvous Restaurant and Lounge. It began as a dream to even the ratio of male to female comedians in Seattle. Aparna will appear as headliner early on in both shows, followed by the usual open mic.

Jai Thai on BroadwayPunchline Comedy Shows – May 15th, 16th & 17th – Free Entry – Comedy shows happen at least four days a week in the back bar of Jai Thai in Seattle’s iconic Capitol Hill. They feature some of Seattle’s best up & coming comedians working with established comics every Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Aparna will appear as a special guest on the Thursday variety show and will headline the shows on Friday and Saturday.

Tacoma Comedy Club – May 18th – $10 Tickets – Even as a relatively new comedy club, Tacoma Comedy Club has quickly established itself as one of the premier comedy venues in the Pacific Northwest due to their clear love of comedy and world class talent. Aparna will headline the one night only Sunday show at the club.
