The Macklemore apology drops: ‘A “Jewish stereotype” never crossed my mind’

So, after an absolute social-media firestorm about his costume at last Friday’s surprise performance at EMP, Macklemore has issued a public statement on his website. It’s fairly long, and in it the rapper tries to explain both how he ended up in the getup many (in Twitter speak that means thousands) are saying was an anti-Semitic outift.

Macklemore in controversial ‘Jewish’ costume at surprise EMP performance

Last Friday, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis showed up for what seemed to be a rollicking, innocuous surprise performance to open the “Spectacle” exhibit at the EMP Museum. Attendees were encouraged to come in costume from their favorite music video. Unclear what video Mackelmore’s costume is referencing, but it seems more than a few people think…
