It’s been a busy few years for the alt-rock band Paramore, who for a long while existed in the awkward no-man’s land between emo, pop-punk and a furtive hint of hardcore.
The band from Franklin, Tenn., lost two of its founding members (brothers Josh and Zac Farro) in late 2010, but regrouped and released a self-titled LP in April. “Paramore,” which debuted No. 1 on the Billboard 200, is a dramatic shift in style and shows a band — all still in their early 20s — growing up in fits and starts.
Led by frontwoman Hayley Williams, Paramore plays the KeyArena tonight with Metric, another band that knows a thing or two about reinvention. Fun fact: Metric formed in 1998, the year Williams turned 10 years old. (more…)

Note: Two song titles have been corrected in this updated review.Bruno Mars may have been the sexiest man in Seattle Sunday night.In a 90-minute show at KeyArena, the handsome, Hawaiian-born pop star with the infectious grin and silky dance moves thrilled a capacity crowd with a hyperkinetic fusion of rock, pop, funk, R&B, soul, reggae, doo-wop and hip-hop. Dressed in slacks, shirt, vest and a sharp-looking fedora, Mars seemed to personify several generations of music icons, from Elvis Presley and James Brown to Prince and Michael Jackson.

Needless to say, it’s been a busy year for the duo, and the remainder looks even busier. With dates all over the world from now until nearly year’s end, they are jetsetting between arenas and festivals in places like Brussels, Beirut and Toronto. But it looks like there are some dates in the Pacific Northwest, concluding with a hometown blowout at KeyArena in December. By the way, pre-sale tickets are available tomorrow. (more…)
