One of our top stories Friday was the decision by the Port Townsend School Board to change the high-school’s nickname from Redskins. The story, written by summer intern Theo Lawson, frames the debate between those who believe the board is being to sensitive and argue that the nickname somehow honors Native Americans and those who believe the change is a racist term that offends nearby tribe and an entire people.
We wonder what you think. Did Port Townsend officials make the right decision?
And, of course, the unspoken question is whether the NFL team in the other Washington, our nation’s capital, should change its Redskins nickname as well.
Vote in our poll and let us know what you think in comments with the story and poll.
