Who among us can honestly say we expected Raul Ibanez to produce this many key hits and display this much power at age 41? If we are truly honest, then the answer is probably very few of us.
His admirable success brings two thoughts to mind. First is that his almost fanatic obsession with working out and keeping fit throughout his career has paid off. The second is wondering how long Ken Griffey, Jr.’s career might have lasted and what his final stats might have looked like if he had showed up for his last appearance with the Mariners chiseled and fit like Ibanez, rather than slow and overweight like he did.
While pondering that, vote in our poll on whether Ibanez is the Mariners’ MVP for the first half of 2013.
