$18,500 for Seattle siblings whose information led to the arrest of the Greenwood arsonist

Two Seattle siblings will receive an $18,500 award Monday for providing information that led to the arrest and conviction of an arsonist in Greenwood.

The woman and her brother, who were not identified, were instrumental in providing a tip that led to the arrest last year of Kevin Todd Swalwell.

Swalwell pleaded guilty to setting 10 fires in Greenwood and one in Shoreline and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. He couldn’t be linked to nine other fires, authorities said.

Damage from the arsons, which occurred between June 19 and Nov. 9, 2009, caused an estimated $2.2 million in damage.

The NW Insurance Council and Arson Alarm Foundation will present the award with the Seattle Fire Department and Seattle Police Department at the Taproot Theatre on North 85th Street. The theater and four restaurants were damaged during one of the fires, which also injured one person.

The Arson Alarm Foundation has awarded more than $100,000 to Washington residents over the past 12 years.
