2 girls stabbed at Snohomish High; student arrested

There is not points to locate on the map

A sophomore at Snohomish  High School was arrested this morning after police say she stabbed two other girls in a restroom at the school.

The victims, both freshmen, were taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, said Snohomish Police Chief John Turner. One of the victims was reportedly stabbed in the chest. She was scheduled to undergo surgery this morning.

“One is in very critical condition, the other was stabbed in a non-critical area; it was  more of a defensive wound,” Turner said. “We don’t know the reason or motive for the action.”

The suspect was arrested at the school and will be booked at the Denney Juvenile Justice Center, Turner said. The knife used in the stabbing, which police said was similar to a butcher knife, has been recovered.

A motive for the stabbings was not immediately released. The girl who suffered the less serious wounds told police she did not know the attacker, Turner said.

It’s unclear how many students witnessed the attack, which occurred in a restroom in an auxiliary gym just before the start of school. “We’re in the process of identifying witnesses,” Turner said.

The school was placed on lockdown from about 7:30 until just after 9 a.m., district spokeswoman Kristin Foley said.
