Big Boom Today: Condit Dam to be breached at noon

Condit Dam on the White Salmon River will be breached by PacifiCorp today at about noon.

After blasting a tunnel through the bottom of the dam, the reservoir behind it will drain in about six hours. The company will take the dam down over the next year or so.  Condit is the third largest dam removal project in U.S. history after the dams coming out on the Elwha River. Demolition of those structures began last month.
