Corrections officer stabbed in Lakewood, Pierce Co.

A state community corrections officer was stabbed in a Department of Corrections (DOC) office in Lakewood, Pierce County, on Thursday afternoon by an offender.

The community corrections officer, a man who was not identified, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at a Tacoma-area hospital, according to DOC spokesman Chad Lewis.

The offender, who also was not identified, was at the field office because he was scheduled to be arrested, apparently for a parole violation, when the corrections officer was stabbed about 4:50 p.m. Lewis said. The field office does not have metal detectors.

The offender was arrested and is in custody, Lewis said.
