Early morning fire destroys home south of Keyport

Fire investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a home south of Keyport in Kitsap County early Tuesday morning.

Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue received a call around 2 a.m. reporting the fire in the 12000 block of South Keyport Road Northeast. When firefighters arrived they saw flames coming from the back of the home, extending into the attic.

The fire was put out at about 3 a.m.

Fire investigators later learned the homeowner had been awakened by the sound of her smoke alarm and her dog barking. She discovered the fire in the kitchen and was able to leave the house safely.

The fire is not considered suspicious, according to Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue.
