Cyclocross, its practitioners say, is “a bicycle-related sport combining the fitness of road riding, the technical bike handling skills of mountain biking, and the finesse of running,” all in a 30-60 minute event. That’s what was on display Saturday at Magnuson Park, when more than 700 riders competed in men’s, women’s and youth categories in the Magnuson Park Cross, on 1.9 miles of what organizer MFG Cyclocross billed as “a sweet mix of wide open drag strips balanced by flowing mazes across beach side grass.” And some mud.
