Police arrest two at Occupy Seattle last night

Two people were arrested at the Occupy Seattle protest last night, according to Seattle police.

At around 8:15 p.m., a 23-year-old man at the Westlake Park protest was arrested for investigation of felony assault after he allegedly spit blood on at least two officers, said Seattle Police Department spokesman Mark Jamieson.

The man was yelling racial slurs and “hateful language” when police contacted him, Jamieson said. The man reportedly started swinging his arms and spitting at officers.

A second person was arrested for misdemeanor assault in connection with an attack on a park ranger.

According to police, a 20-year-old man in a sleeping bag was “uncooperative” with park rangers who told him the camping at the park was not permitted. The man was “verbally hostile” toward the rangers and later toward police, Jamieson said.

The man picked up his sleeping bag and then tossed a lit cigarette at one of the rangers, striking him in the collarbone, according to police.
