Rollergirls, stunt choppers win half-hour on viaduct

Roller skates and motorcycles.

They’re the winners of the half-hour on the viaduct contest sponsored by the Washington Department of Transportation.

The DOT announced a contest to answer the question: “What would I do with 30 minutes on the Alaskan Way Viaduct.” The winners — each entry could include a maximum of 25 people —will have the viaduct all to themselves for a half-hour on Saturday, the day after the southern mile of the viaduct closes for nine days as it begins replacing the aging structure.

The winners announced Friday were the Rat City Rollergirls and the motorcycle-stunt team Seattle Cossacks. They beat out nearly 600 entries.
