Some northbound I-5 lanes near Southcenter closed for repairs

Three northbound lanes of Interstate 5 have been closed between South 188th Street near the Interstate 405 interchange around Southcenter so that crews can make emergency roadway repairs, according to the State Department of Transportation.

The lanes were closed a few minutes after noon so that crews can fix panels that started to buckle after recent repairs, said Steve Pierce, the department’s communications director. The lanes will not reopen until 4 a.m. on Thursday.

The closure includes the ramp from southbound I-405 to northbound I-5, according to the department. During the closure,  all drivers may use the northbound HOV lanes in the area, the department said, but it  encourged drivers to avoid the area if possible or take alternate routes.
