The Morning Memo / Thursday: Car fires, teen stabbing, studs

Weather: Yesterday we said there was a small chance of rain. That’s our story and we’re sticking to it. We like a high in the mid-50s and some sun this afternoon. Looks to be wet tomorrow and Saturday, though. Can’t win them all.

This is an image from the time-lapse bicycle commute from West Seattle to South Lake Union by Seattle Times transportation reporter Mike Lindblom.

Traffic: Viadoom! Seattle Times transportation reporter Mike Lindblom road his bike to work yesterday. There’s a time-lapse video of his journey. Have a look.

Also, here’s one editor’s experience this morning:¬†Around 6 a.m., traffic was busy but not too heavy from West Seattle. For drivers who are aiming north of downtown, a fast route was to take Royal Brougham Way back up onto the Viaduct and Highway 99 North. Little traffic and no lights, even though the speed limit is now 40 mph.

Military vehicles burned: Three military vehicles outside a recruiting facility in Everett were burned this morning. More to come.

State budget woes, again: Another $2 billion needs to be slashed from the state budget, and the governor plans to tell us today her ideas on how to do that. We’ll be there and will file a story soonest.

Teen stabbing suspect: The 15-year-old girl charged with stabbing two other girls at Snohomish High School was suspended last spring for threatening to kill another student’s boyfriend.

Studs: No, not as in man hunks. Tires with studs¬†become legal Nov. 1, so when you’re navigating in the snow across our mountain passes you can actually get where you’re going. That said, there are folks who don’t like it that studs can tear up the roadways.
