Update: Seattle Central Community College to Occupy Seattle: No camping on our campus

There is not points to locate on the mapSeattle Central Community College said Wednesday that Occupy Seattle is not welcome to camp on its property.

In an open letter to Occupy Seattle,  SCCC wrote: “Camping on college property is prohibited for all individuals and groups. If this rule is violated, the college may choose to impose its own sanctions, including criminal or civil prosecution.”

It went on to say the college supports free speech rights, but doesn’t endorse those expressed by Occupy Seattle protesters.

The college also said Occupy Seattle can’t interfere with any lease agreements is has for the campus property, particularly the Broadway Sunday Farmers Market, which has a contract to have a market at the site where Occupy Seattle wants to camp.

“Any interruption of this event would create serious consequences to their revenues,” SCCC wrote. “Occupy Seattle will be required to provide recompense to the (Neighborhood Farmers Market Association) for any disruption of market activities.”

SCCC also said other activities are planned on the campus this weekend, including Halloween events sponsored by the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce.
