Viaduct & the commute: Morning traffic heavier today

Traffic across the West Seattle Bridge appeared heavier today than on Monday, as commuters started their second day of workday travel without the viaduct.

Shortly before 7 a.m., traffic was already backing up on 1st Avenue South in SoDo and Interstate 5  southbound was slow through downtown. On Monday, traffic was still moving smoothly in those areas.

The West Seattle Blog was reporting that traffic on the West Seattle Water Taxi was down about 20 percent compared to Monday. Some of that traffic may have moved back to the roads or buses.

Meanwhile, King County Metro reported on Twitter that some buses may take different routes to avoid congestion.

The Monday morning commute was smooth, but the afternoon drive-time took longer for many drivers, with traffic snarled as far away as Interstate 405.
