Weekend weather looks promising

The golden glow of a sunlit autumn morning bathed downtown Seattle Thursday as the weather shifted from a cloudy, showery pattern so far this month to a drier, sunny stretch expected to last into the start of next week. ( Ellen Banner / The Seattle Times)

We can’t offer guarantees on anything as notoriously changeable as Puget Sound area weather, but it looks like a splendid weekend is headed our way.

Chances are you’ve already noticed the golden glow outside, as the showery start to the week has yielded to mostly sunny skies.  And Thursday afternoon is shaping up as a 59-degree scorcher, says the Weather Service forecast.

Friday could arrive wrapped in morning fog and switch to afternoon clouds, but is expected to remain dry.

Then comes a bright weekend:  We’re talking a mostly sunny Saturday and a partly sunny Sunday, each notching a high of about 56.

Sounds like made-to-order football weather, and it should keep fans comfortable as the Huskies, favored by two touchdowns, host Colorado on Saturday. The Seahawks, though, are sitting this out as a bye weekend.

If you love getting out in precious fall sunshine, take note: Sunshine is expected to continue through Monday and Tuesday with temperatures each day edging toward 60, a normal high here in mid-October.

And a tidbit for all you rain-watchers: Wednesday’s trace of rain at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport marked the first day this month without measurable precipitation. September, in contrast, had only six days of measurable wetness for the entire month.
