UPDATE AT 8:39 PM: Police ended their search of the Frye building at 7:45 p.m.

In the end, nobody could determine where the shots came from, police spokesman Jeff Kappel told reporters. No weapon was found and the suspect or suspects are still at large.

Anyone with information is urged to call 911.

UPDATE AT 7:10 PM: Kappel told reporter Sara Jean Green that a shot was fired into the King County Chinook office building, which houses several county agencies. The courthouse was NOT struck by a bullet, Kappel said.

The courthouse was evacuated, but most courthouse business was believed to have finished for the day.

Kappel did not say what office or what floor of the county office building had been struck.

SWAT officers are now inside the Frye building, searching for the suspect.

UPDATE AT 6:40 PM: A SWAT team has arrived.

Times reporter Sara Jean Green is on the scene. She says three armored vehicles are staging on the west side of 3rd and James. Police are focusing on the Frye Hotel, in the 200 block of Yesler Way, where they believe a shooter may be holed up.

One witness reported hearing about eight shots.

Bill Green, 60, a homeless man, said he heard three shots fired about 4:30 p.m., but thought it was some kind of Halloween prank. An hour later, he heard three more shots fired, followed by an additional two.

Jeff Kappel, a police spokesman, confirmed police heard several shots fired. The woman who was struck was shot in the hip or leg, but did not suffer life-threatening injuries. He said it was not a grazing wound.

UPDATE: Police investigate reports of other shots fired, including a bullet that may have gone through a judge’s window on the 8th floor of the King County Courthouse.

The area is sealed off to all traffic and pedestrians.

EARLIER POST: A woman in her 50s was shot in the hip Monday near 3rd Avenue and Yesler Way in downtown Seattle, authorities said.

The shooting occurred about 5:08 p.m. and the woman was grazed by a bullet in the left hip, said Kyle Moore, spokesman for the Seattle Fire Department.

The woman was alert, conscious and in stable condition, Moore said. Medics took her to Harborview Medical Center.

Police, meanwhile, were re-routing vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The suspect is still at large, according to Seattle police.
