Three people were injured this afternoon when a shotgun discharged during a dispute involving numerous people at a Lynnwood apartment complex.

The shooting prompted the brief lockdown of several nearby schools.

About a dozen people were involved in the dispute just after 1 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 5600 block of 168th Street Southwest, according to Lynnwood police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions. One person left and returned with a shotgun, she said.

Several people were apparently wrestling over the shotgun when it discharged, Sessions said, and two men and a woman were hit by pellets or shrapnel or both. The two 21-year-old men, one from Renton and the other from Lynnwood, were treated at the scene by Lynnwood Fire Department medics.

A 46-year-old Lynnwood woman was taken to Swedish Medical Center/Edmonds Campus with a leg wound, Sessions said. Her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

Another woman, a 43-year-old Lynnwood resident, was arrested and booked for investigation of first-degree assault in connection with the shooting, Sessions said. Several other people were detained and interviewed by police.

Sessions said the nature of the dispute was still under investigation, but it appears there had been an ongoing disagreement among a few people who live in the area.

As a precaution, the Edmonds School District placed Meadowdale elementary, middle and high schools and Beverly Elementary under lockdown. DJ Jakala, spokeswoman for the district, said the lockdowns were lifted around 1:45 p.m.

“Our knowledge from Lynnwood police was that it did not involve students,” Jakala said.
