Grad student, boyfriend victims in fiery Seattle crash
A University of Washington graduate student and her boyfriend were identified Monday as the victims of a fiery automobile crash on Lake City Way Northeast.
Laura Sheard, 26, a graduate student in pharmacology, and Kristopher Martin, 33, were killed in the accident that happened Sunday afternoon near Northeast 110 Street.
Police said the couple were stopped at a red light in a Hyundai Sedan when they were struck from behind by a Ford Explorer driven by a 43-year-old man. The cars traveled about 100 yards before the Hyundai burst into flames.
The 43-year-old man and two girls in the SUV ages 10 and 11 were taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Sheard, from Pennsylvania, was in her fifth year of study at the UW’s pharmacology program and was close to earning her Ph.D, said her faculty adviser, Dr. Ning Zheng.
