Here's a hot item: Bellevue is a hive of techies

Nearly half of Bellevue’s college-educated residents have degrees in science and engineering, an unusually high number, according to the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey.

That proportion of technically educated professionals puts it in the top 13 percent of cities with 65,000 or more residents, the Bellevue Planning and Community Development Department said Wednesday in a release discussing data first reported by the Census in September 2010.

Bellevue’s population last year was just over 122,000.

Forty-nine percent of adults 25 and older with a bachelor’s degree or higher held science or engineering degrees, the city reported. Fifty-nine percent of adults have bachelor’s degrees or higher.
