Kirkland woman dies of neck wound

Kirkland police investigate the scene of a 19-year-old woman's stabbing (Ken Lambert / The Seattle Times).

A 19-year-old woman died early Wednesday of a neck wound at an apartment complex in the Juanita area of Kirkland.

Police Lt. Mike Murray said the woman’s boyfriend, also 19, called 911 shortly before 3 a.m. and reported that the woman was bleeding from a neck wound.  Dispatchers gave him instructions to attempt to stop the bleeding and perform CPR.

The woman was still alive when aid units arrived at the apartment in the 13300 block of 100th Avenue Northeast, Murray said, but by the time she could be moved to the aid car, she had died.

Murray said it’s unclear how the woman suffered the injury, “We don’t know if it was self-inflicted yet.”

Homicide detectives were waiting for a search warrant before gathering evidence at the apartment, Murray said.

The boyfriend, who police said had lived with the woman about two years, was being interviewed by detectives, but was not being described by police as a suspect.

“We’re not classifying him as anything other than a witness at this point, because we don’t know how she got the wounds,” Murray said.

Police searched around some trash bins behind a nearby supermarket, where possible evidence was reportedly found, according to Times’ newspartner KING-TV. However, police would not discuss what was found.

The State Patrol is assisting in the investigation.
