Man threatens would-be robbers with a hammer

A man in Seattle’s Central District managed to fend off three attackers Friday night by threatening them with a hammer, according to Seattle police.

A police department news release said the man was walking on 27th Avenue East toward East Marion Street around 10 p.m. when three men tried to rob him at gunpoint.

He pulled a hammer out of his bag and held it high above his head “in an effort to intimidate the suspects,” Seattle police said. The three men repeated their demand for his bag, and the victim charged toward them.

One of the suspects fired the gun, and they ran off. No one was struck by the bullet. The suspects are still at large.
