Police investigating possible sexual assault at Occupy Seattle camp

Police are investigating a report of a possible sexual assault at Occupy Seattle’s Capitol Hill camp, officials confirmed Monday night.

The incident took place Friday night, according to a police report. A protester reported seeing a man she did not know leaving her tent. When she walked into the tent, she found a woman lying on the floor naked from the waist down.

The man was later seen running out of the camp, according to the report.

The Seattle Police Department’s sexual assault unit is investigating the case, spokesman Jeff Kappel said.

After the incident, the victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center. She has not returned to the camp, said Aliana Bazara, who works on the movement’s media team.

It is not known if the perpetrator is involved in the Occupy Seattle movement, Bazara said.

“We don’t condone any type of violence here,” said Bazara. “It is a concern and we’re working to make sure that all our tents are safe and that we’re maintaining a safe environment.”
