Police use Taser on drunk Interlake High student

Update, 5:30 p.m.

The drunk student, an 18-year-old, was arrested and booked into jail on investigation of assault, a Bellevue Police Department spokeswoman said.

“He resisted arrest and was fighting with the officers,” Officer Carla Iafrate said. “Officers had to Tase him to get him under control.”

Bellevue police used a Taser to subdue a drunk and angry Interlake High School senior Thursday afternoon, school officials said.

The incident, described in a letter to parents from Principal Maria Frieboes-Gee, began just after school ended when the student returned to campus intoxicated. When several students tried to take away his car keys, he assaulted them, she said.

Police arriving on the scene attempted to calm down the student but ultimately used the Taser.

The student has been placed on emergency expulsion as officials determine their next step, said Bellevue School District spokeswoman Jacque Coe, who declined further comment.

A spokeswoman for the Bellevue Police Department said more detailed information would not be available until Monday.
