Sports: Let's talk about it. Oh, we already do.

Sometimes you can tell rather easily where comment threads will go and whether the number of comments will be into the hundreds on a story based on its topic, reader interest, one’s politics and so on.

One thing we know for sure: Sports stories and blogs garner a lot of comments.

As you can see below, six out of the top ten stories or blogs with the most comments today are sports related.

Former chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court Earl Warren told Sports Illustrated in 1968:

“I always turn to the sports section first. The sports section records people’s accomplishments; the front page nothing but man’s failures.”

Well, that’s not always true — good news can be found on the front page — but there’s no doubt people turn to sports time and again. And they like to talk about it.
