Suspect in Carkeek Park attack found competent

There is not points to locate on the map

A 19-year-old man suspected of attacking a female jogger Oct. 10 in Seattle’s Carkeek Park was found competent to stand trial today.

Jack Sun Keewatinawin, who is charged with second-degree assault with sexual motivation, was then arraigned and pleaded not guilty in King County Superior Court. He remains in jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.

According to the probable-cause statement that outlines the police case, Keewatinawin was sitting on a park bench along an isolated trail at the park on the morning of Oct. 10 when a woman jogged by. Keewatinawin allegedly ran up behind the woman, grabbed her in a choke hold and threw her to the ground and then pushed her head into the ground, the statement says.

The victim was able to fight her attacker off by kicking and punching him and pulling his long hair, it says.

Keewatinawin allegedly apologized to the woman and fled the park, according to the statement. As he ran, he dialed 911 and reported that he’d just attacked a woman in the park, the report says.

Seattle police were able to trace the 911 call from his cell phone to identify Keewatinawin and his home address, the statement says. After the victim identified him from a photo montage, police went to Keewatinawin’s Greenwood house, which is near Carkeek Park, and arrested him.
