Two shootings in South Seattle on Sunday, unclear if connected

A man and a woman were shot within minutes of each other in South Seattle on Sunday and police are still investigating whether the incidents are related.

A man dialed 911 at 11:49 a.m. to report that his girlfriend had been wounded while they were getting into their car at Rainier Avenue South and South McClellan Street, near Franklin High School. The man told officers that a smaller black car drove up beside them and a passenger in that car fired several rounds in their direction. Two rounds struck the 20-year-old woman as she was getting into the driver’s seat.

The woman’s boyfriend drove her to Swedish Medical Center’s main campus in the  First Hill neighborhood. She was later transferred to Harborview Medical Center. Details about the woman’s medical condition have not been released by police.

At around noon Sunday, police were called to the corner of 23rd Avenue South and South Dearborn Street for reports of gunfire. A few minutes later, 911 dispatchers told officers that a man had been dropped off at Swedish’s Cherry Hill campus with a gunshot wound to the stomach. The man’s medical condition is unknown.

The 33-year-old victim told officers that a light-skinned black male with dreadlocks shot him. The suspect then fled in a green Ford Crown Victoria, according to police.

A witness told officers that the suspect had dreadlocks that were partially bleached blond.

Police say that it is unknown if the two shootings are related.
