Auburn pedestrian dies in accident

A 63-year old Auburn man died this morning when he was hit by a van while he was trying to cross the street, according to Auburn police.

The man was not in a crosswalk when he was struck by the van going north in the 1500 block of Auburn Way South at around 7 a.m , said Cmdr. Mike Hirman of the Auburn Police Department. It was dark and wet at the time of the accident.

The man, who suffered head and other injuries, died while in route to Harborview Medical Center.

No one else was injured.   Authorities late Monday were still trying to locate the man’s  family and have not released his name.
