Body discovered after fire at Everett storage facility

A man’s body was discovered inside a storage unit today as Everett firefighters cleaned up after an early morning storage-facility fire, according to a news release about the incident.

Officials had heard earlier in the day that a man might have been living inside the unit, but they did not discover the body until hours after the fire, according to a release from the Everett Police Department.

Investigators haven’t determined the fire’s cause.

The Everett Fire Department responded to a call at about 6:45 a.m. about the facility, a 75 x 100 foot space in the 3800 block of Smith Avenue, according to the release. Firefighters fought the fire into the early afternoon.

The Washington State Patrol also responded to control traffic on Interstate 5 after smoke from the fire drifted onto the nearby freeway.
