Burn ban now stricter in Snohomish, Pierce counties

The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency says air quality has continued to decline in Western Washington, and on Tuesday elevated its ban on burning in Pierce and Snohomish counties to include any wood-burning in fireplaces or stoves.

The agency says a continuing high-pressure center offshore is responsible for air-quality levels that are “unhealthy for sensitive groups” in Pierce and Snohomish counties. The stagnant air could last into the weekend.

The Stage 2 burn ban now in effect prohibits burning any wood in fireplaces, stoves or pellet stoves. The only exception is if a wood stove is a home’s only adequate source of heat. No outdoor fires are allowed, including bonfires.
