Christmas Eve, dry – Christmas Day … wet

The Seattle area looks to be in for a wet Christmas, but the rain should hold off long enough to give Santa Claus a dry Christmas Eve to work his magic.

Overall, it’s shaping up to be a pretty good holiday weekend of weather, said Dennis D’Amico, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.

The forecast calls for an 80 percent chance of rain on Christmas Sunday, with precipitation tapering off into the evening. The high will be about 45 degrees or a little lower.

But Christmas Eve should be dry, with lows in the upper 30s.

“It’s not too bad of a Christmas Eve — folks going out, Santa flying,” D’Amico said. “He gets his work during the good weather, so that’s smart.”

Still, D’Amico recommended residents traveling on Christmas Day be careful on the roadways because of rain.

The forecast calls for another dry day Monday, although another wet system will be coming in after that. Then, rain is expected to stay in the area on and off through the new year.
