One person killed in crash on Granite Falls highway

A 28-year-old Monroe resident died in a crash Tuesday afternoon while she was trying to turn left from Machias Road onto Highway 92, near Lake Stevens.

Her sedan was hit in the driver’s side door by an SUV that was heading east on Highway 92, toward Granite Falls, state troopers reported.  A 39-year-old Arlington man riding in the sedan, and the SUV driver, a 26-year-old Lake Stevens resident, were both injured and taken to Providence Medical Center in Everett.

State troopers said the crash, at 3:36 p.m., was caused by the sedan driver’s “failure to yield.”  Her name has not been released yet, until next of kin are notified, troopers said.

Traffic was detoured several hours until the highway reopened about 7 p.m.
